Welcome to the QuiltingKids Place This is a place where moms and kids alike can come together around the quilting frame so to speak. We will be hosting swaps, printing tips and hints for teaching our kids the age-old art of quilting, and eventually we will be adding pictures of finished projects and maybe even one or two of ourselves!! Stay tuned while we get this site into motion!! And while you are here, check out our links. |

Meet Our Moderators! Hi, I'm Mary and I created the QuiltingKids Web Page and the QuiltingKids List located at QuiltingKids@Onelist.com. I did this to have a place for moms and kids to help them teach and learn to quilt.
I am 38 and have been quilting on and off since childhood. I have recently begun to quilt on a regular basis. I finished numerous small projects before Christmas 1998 and am now working on a Y2K charm quilt, a Family Tree quilt, and a queen size Pinwheel quilt. I have also completed 3 miniature dollhouse quilts with blocks being as small as 1/4" finished. I did these all by hand as I find it very difficult to work with such small pieces on the machine!! Three of my five children are interested in learning to quilt and I have been working with them on small projects. They now hand piece as well as machine piece and hand quilt their projects. They are working on Y2K projects of their own and are very excited in becoming involved in some on-line swaps. Meet my co-moderator, Claire!!! Hi, I am Claire and I am the co-moderator of the QuiltingKids List. I have only been quilting seriously for 2 years now and still have much to learn myself, however, being a teacher at heart it is my earnest desire to pass my enjoyment and enthusiasm for quilting on to others, especially children. Over the past year, my oldest child has participated in several on-line block swaps for kids and these have been very positive experiences. Through my involvement with this list I hope to introduce more kids to the art and enjoyment of quilting and provide a forum where other moms (or aunts, or grandmoms, or teachers, or even dads)who want to teach kids to quilt can give and receive encouragement. I am a 47 yr. old Christian woman, formerly an elementary and special education teacher, but, now a stay at home mom. The quilts I have completed have been primarily miniature quilts and wall hangings which I have made as gifts for others. Among my favorites are the signature quilts that I made for one of my children's teachers last year. One of these won a blue ribbon in our county fair. I especially love watercolor quilting and am currently working on what will be my most ambitious quilt project to date, a Y2K quilt done in watercolor style. This year, I also hope to complete several other Y2K wall hangings using the signature squares that I have collected from across the US and around the world. And, of course, I want to be involved in more quilting projects with my children. Please come and join us as we strive to pass the art of quilting on to others! |
